Privacy Policy
Smokelog is a small, single-purpose service run by its builder. The short version: we store what's needed to record your cooks and bill your subscription, we don't run trackers, and we never sell or share your data. The rest of this page spells that out.
Information we collect
Account: your email address and a hashed password (we store a cryptographic hash, never the password itself).
Traeger credentials: to record your grill, you provide your Traeger account email and password. These are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and used only to read your grill's telemetry from Traeger's cloud service. They are never logged, displayed, or shared.
Cook data: grill and probe temperatures, set points, grill status, timestamps, pellet levels, and the debrief notes you write. This is the product — it's retained until you delete it or your account.
Location and weather: your grill reports the location you configured in the Traeger app. We use those coordinates to look up the weather during your cooks (via Open-Meteo) and store that weather with each cook. We don't use your location for anything else.
Payments: handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number — we keep only Stripe's customer and subscription identifiers and your subscription status.
Server logs: standard operational logs (timestamps, requests, errors) kept briefly for debugging and security. Cook contents are not written to logs.
How we use it
To run the service: recording cooks, showing your dashboards, sending transactional email (password resets, and — if we ever email you beyond that — you'll have asked first), and billing. That's the complete list.
What we never do
No analytics trackers, no advertising pixels, no fingerprinting, no selling data, no sharing with data brokers, no using your cook data for anything other than showing it to you. The only cookie is a session cookie that keeps you logged in.
Service providers we rely on
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Google Cloud | Hosting and database (US region) |
| Cloudflare | DNS and network edge |
| Stripe | Payments and card storage |
| Resend | Transactional email delivery |
| Traeger's cloud | Source of your grill's telemetry (your existing relationship) |
| Open-Meteo | Weather lookups (receives coordinates only, no identity) |
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Traeger credentials are encrypted at rest; passwords are hashed (scrypt); session tokens are stored hashed. Access to production systems is limited to the operator. If a breach ever affects your data, we'll notify you by email without unreasonable delay.
Retention and deletion
Cook data is kept for as long as you keep your account — that's the point of the product. Delete your account (or email us) and your data — account, credentials, cooks, notes — is deleted. Canceling your subscription pauses recording but preserves your archive, so resubscribing picks up where you left off.
Your rights
Email info@getsmokelog.com to access, export (machine-readable), correct, or delete your data — whether or not a specific privacy law (GDPR, CCPA, or otherwise) applies to you, we honor these requests for everyone. We aim to respond within 30 days and don't discriminate against you for asking.
Children
Smokelog isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. (They also shouldn't be operating a 500°F smoker unsupervised.)
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll email account holders before the change takes effect and update the date at the top.
